Islamic Microfinance in the Balkan Region

The webinar will present practical insights from the experience of START, an Islamic microfinance institution from Kosovo. Given the unique challenges of the region, the webinar will focus on how this pioneering Islamic microfinance institution has performed over the two decades of its operations in the region. It will also demonstrate how Islamic social funds have been used and leveraged to create a sustainable Islamic microfinance entity, enhancing and multiplying its impact

Vehbi Zeqiri

Mr Zeqiri is serving as Executive Director at START Microfinance Institution since its inception in 2002. He is also one of the founders of the institution and member of the Board of Directors. As one of the main contributors in establishing and leading the first Islamic financial institution in the country has secured its place in the history of the country for Islamic Finance.

Mr Zeqiri is a ‘Chartered Islamic Finance Professional’, the degree obtained by the INCEIF University in Malaysia and also ‘International Certified Expert in Microfinance’ the degree obtained from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management which are directly linked to the financial sector where he serves for many years. In terms of Leadership Mr. Zeqiri obtained the Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management from the Institute for Leadership & Management in London, UK.
